Designed to rally support for a breast cancer cure, the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer is an annual fundraiser that in 2015 attracted 1,000 walkers. Participants in this enjoyable event taking place during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month on October 15-16, 2016, travel a 30-mile course throughout Atlanta over two days. Atlanta 2-Day Cancer Walk History
Started in 2002, this 2-Day fundraising event aims to provide individuals with a wide variety of fitness and ability levels the opportunity to offer support for the fight against breast cancer, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has identified as the most common cause of cancer among U.S. women. Walkers involved in the event are welcome to walk all 30 miles during Saturday and Sunday, or they can opt for walking 10 miles on Sunday. Whether the strides are big or small, long or short, the goal of this cancer walk is to show support in whatever way a person is able.
Millions of Dollars Raised in the Fight Against Breast Cancer
Being involved in the walk gives participants and merchants like Pink Plumber an enjoyable, healthy way to support a worthy cause. Last year alone, the event raised more than $1 million. It's a Journey, Inc. used these funds to provide support to those with breast cancer in 70 counties throughout Georgia.
Programs that benefit from the funds include those that provide individuals with mammograms, breast clinic exams, biopsies, genetic counseling and testing and education. Much of the support goes to under-insured and under-served women. Since 2002, the cancer walk has raised $12 million to support Georgia breast cancer support programs.
